Last Tuesday, the Franklin Common Council gave the OK to allow the The Rock Sports Complex to have higher decibel minimums for certain events throughout the season.
These approvals come after residents lodged a Notice of Claim and Injury against the City of Franklin in part for the approvals in past years. The residents involved with this claim allege the noise from The Rock Sports Complex over the years has negatively impacted their nearby neighborhoods and home values. Some of them have been regulars at Council meetings, speaking during citizen comment periods. At last Tuesday’s meeting, however, there were no comments or presence from them on the issue.
The Council’s approval raises the maximum sound from 55 to 65 decibels for UWM Panther and Milwaukee Milkmen games, and 55 to 60 decibels for Rock’n Food Truck Parties. The Rock’n Food Truck Parties was originally proposed to be up to 65 decibels as well. After brief remarks by the organizer and alderpersons noting there was no issues last year with those events capped at 60, it was agreed to keep the same level this year.
The approval also includes the Candy Drop, where a helicopter flies in to drop candy over Franklin Field. Children are then allowed to go onto the field to collect their sugar rushes once all the candy is dropped. The drop is slated for either Sunday, August 16th or Sunday, August 23rd.
As part of the approval, the Council plans to oversee how the compliance is going with a midseason review likely slated for a Council meeting in July.
