Yaskawa America’s new HQ proposal for the Franklin Business Park.

The Franklin Common Council on April 21st will be considering the creation of another tax-incremental district (TID) in an effort to lock-in plans by Yaskawa America to relocate their headquarters to Franklin. Currently, Yaskawa America is based in Waukegan, Illinois but last year made the announcement it was consolidating its operations in several buildings in the Franklin Business Park near 41st and Ryan Road.

Franklin Economic Development Director John Regetz noted the construction and development of several buildings in the Business Park will cost roughly $117 million. Per the Council packet, the timing, costs and construction timeline of the new corporate Campus is as follows:

  • MFG-1, will be a 95,500 sq. ft. robotics manufacturing facility with clean rooms and will start construction in the May-June 2026 timeframe, complete in early 2028, and costing $17 million to build.
  • MFG-2, will be a 294,000 sq. ft. manufacturing & warehouse facility for electric-motor-driven-equipment and will start construction in May-June 2028, complete at the end of 2030, and cost $40 million to build.
  • HQ & Lab, will be a 103,000 sq. ft. Headquarters and Lab, starting construction in April-May 2031, complete at the end of 2033, and costing $52 million to build.
  • An 84,000 sq. ft. attached, below and at ground level, parking garage will be built on the Headquarters and Lab, part ofthat construction from April-May 2031 to the end of 2033 and cost $8.4 million to construct.

The new TID if created, TID #11, will be $4.2 million.
